Description
Fancy Factory is an independent game studio based in Arnstadt, Germany, founded by Axel Friedrich in 2008. Across more than 15 years, the studio has shipped a diverse portfolio of indie games — from early mobile titles and casual puzzlers to 3D adventures and retro-flavored arcade experiences — released on platforms ranging from J2ME feature phones and iOS to PC, Mac, Linux, and modern consoles. Fancy Factory's games share a common thread: accessible, character-driven design with a distinct love for gaming history, reinterpreted with modern craftsmanship.
History
Fifteen Years of Indie Games, Across Every PlatformFancy Factory was founded in 2008 by Axel Friedrich as a one-person indie studio with an unusually broad ambition: to make great games regardless of platform, genre, or trend. The studio's debut title, "Freddy the Kitten," shipped on J2ME feature phones — the smartphones of their day — and was followed over the years by a varied catalog including the casual hits "Slice the Ice" and "Gem Slash," the strategy game "Age of Tribes," and the charming 3D cat-detective adventures "Scott Whiskers in: the Search for Mr. Fumbleclaw" and "Scott Whiskers: the Search for the Golden Cat." This deliberate refusal to specialize has shaped the studio's identity: Fancy Factory builds whatever game it wants to build next, on whatever platform makes sense for it.
Bringing KABOOMANIA to Every ScreenThe studio's current title, KABOOMANIA, is a fast-paced retro maze bomber that started life as a project for the actual Amiga 1200, built using the Scorpion Engine. As development progressed, the scope expanded to include the Amiga 500 (32 colors) as well as a fully modern release on PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and iOS. Securing legendary composer Chris Huelsbeck — the musician whose music defined the sound of the Amiga generation through Turrican, The Great Giana Sisters, Apidya, and Katakis — to write an exclusive new soundtrack, with longtime Huelsbeck collaborator Fabian Del Priore (Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams, Giana Sisters DS) handling the hardware-faithful ProTracker MOD conversion for the Amiga versions, gives KABOOMANIA a rare distinction: one Huelsbeck score, every platform from 1992 to today. Following a successful Kickstarter campaign, late pledges will be unlocked shortly.
