Description
KABOOMANIA is a fast-paced retro maze bomber packed with explosive action, vibrant pixel art, and a fresh twist on a timeless gameplay formula. Originally designed for the Commodore Amiga 1200 and now coming to every modern platform — PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, iPhone, and iPad — KABOOMANIA features an exclusive new soundtrack by Chris Huelsbeck (Turrican, The Great Giana Sisters, Apidya, Katakis), with the authentic Amiga versions converted to ProTracker MOD format by longtime Huelsbeck collaborator Fabian Del Priore (Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams, Giana Sisters DS). With 1,000 levels, five themed worlds, dozens of quirky enemies, and a chaotic 4-player local couch battle mode, KABOOMANIA is a love letter to the 16-bit arcade era — built for retro enthusiasts and a brand-new generation alike. Launching August 13, 2026.
History
A Modern Take on a Classic ConceptKABOOMANIA is inspired by the spirit of 16-bit arcade action — but it is neither a remake nor a clone. It's a brand-new interpretation of the maze-bomber genre, built with original art, original level design, and a unique identity. The game runs in authentic low-resolution pixel art using the classic 128-color AGA palette of the Amiga 1200, with a separate 32-color version for the original Amiga 500. Whether you're a longtime retro enthusiast, a pixel-art lover, or simply someone who enjoys fast, explosive arcade gameplay, KABOOMANIA delivers a nostalgic yet thoroughly modern experience for all ages.
One Soundtrack, Every Platform — From PS5 to Amiga 500At the heart of KABOOMANIA is the exclusive new original soundtrack by Chris Huelsbeck — the composer whose music defined the sound of the Amiga generation through Turrican, The Great Giana Sisters, Apidya, and Katakis. To make sure the score sounds its best on every platform, it ships in two technically distinct versions of the same composition: a fully produced version for the modern release on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and iOS, and an authentic Amiga rendition in the classic ProTracker MOD format, working directly with the original sound chips of the Amiga 500, Amiga 1200, and CD32. The hardware-faithful conversion is handled by Fabian Del Priore (Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams, Giana Sisters DS) — a longtime Huelsbeck collaborator whose own composing career started in the early 90s on the Amiga 500 and who today is a regular contributor to the celebrated Immortal Amiga remix compilations. Few people on the planet are better suited to translate a Huelsbeck composition onto authentic Amiga hardware. The result: KABOOMANIA sounds period-perfect on a real Amiga from 1992, and cinematic and contemporary on a modern console — without compromising either world.
Built on the Scorpion Engine, Powered by CrowdfundingKABOOMANIA was developed using the Scorpion Engine, a modern toolchain that allows native development for original Commodore Amiga hardware. From this Amiga foundation, the game was then ported and expanded for modern platforms, ensuring that every visual detail and gameplay nuance translates faithfully across all versions. The project was successfully funded on Kickstarter, with late pledges unlocking shortly for backers who missed the initial campaign. In addition to the digital releases, KABOOMANIA will also be available as a physical boxed edition for the Commodore Amiga — a deliberate nod to the era when games came in real boxes, with real manuals, on real disks.
